
Keeping Your Bathroom Heater Safe (And Your Toes Warm)
Putting infrared lamps in a bathroom is a bit of a gamble. You’ve got steam everywhere and water splashing around—basically the two things electricity hates most. To make sure nobody gets a shock, we focus on two main things: keeping the water out and making sure the internals are rock solid.
Dealing with the Damp
You’ll see “IP65” on the box. In plain English, that just means the unit is sealed tight against dust and can handle a spray of water without blinking. We use silicone gaskets and reinforced seals wherever a cable enters the unit. Why? Because if moisture sneaks into the wiring, your breaker is going to trip, or worse, you’ll have a short circuit. We’ve designed the housing specifically so water can’t “creep” or suck its way into the lamp sockets. It just stays out.
The Safety Stuff Inside
We don’t just trust the outer shell to do the heavy lifting. That’s too risky. Inside, the heating elements sit on high-temperature ceramic insulators with double-insulated wiring. We also use quartz glass tubes with a special coating. This stops “surface tracking”—which is just a fancy way of saying we stop moisture from creating a bridge for electricity to travel across the glass. The connections are tucked into heat-resistant polymer blocks. They stay strong and insulating even when the lamp is cranking out maximum heat. Just a tip: make sure your grounding wire is bonded directly to the chassis. It’s the best way to shunt any stray current safely into the earth.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
Here’s the catch. High-wattage lamps get incredibly hot. Since the IP65 seal is so good at keeping water out, it also traps heat inside the box. You can’t just shove the heater into a tight ceiling void and call it a day. Give it some breathing room. If it can’t vent, the internals will basically slow-cook themselves, and your lamps won’t last nearly as long. Also, don’t cut corners with the wiring. Use moisture-resistant conduits from the breaker panel all the way to the heater. It keeps the insulation intact and gives you real peace of mind.
