
Why You Need IP65 Infrared Heat in Your Wet Zones
If you’ve ever used a standard lamp heater in a steamy bathroom, you know the drill. They just don’t last. The open elements get hit with steam and splashes, they oxidize, and then they’re dead. It’s a waste of money. That’s why we’ve been moving toward IP65-rated infrared heaters. Basically, they wrap the electrical guts in a protective shell so the environment can’t get to them. What does “IP65” actually mean for you? Think of it as a raincoat for your heater. It keeps dust out and handles water jets from any direction. When you’re installing something right above a shower or a tub, you can’t trust a basic IP20 or IP44 unit. Moisture will find a way in, and that’s how you end up with a short circuit. We use heavy-duty gaskets and housings that don’t rust to make sure the inside stays bone-dry. The feeling of infrared vs. the old way Most heaters try to warm up the air. In a drafty bathroom, that’s a losing battle. The heat just floats away. Infrared is different. It sends out waves that hit your skin and the walls directly. You feel it the second you turn it on. It’s an instant, cozy warmth. We use short-wave emitters because they pack a lot of punch into a small size. But a heads-up: these things gethot. Really hot. You’ve got to be smart about how high you mount them so nobody accidentally gets a burn. Getting it installed (and keeping it alive) You can’t just plug these into a cheap extension cord. They pull a lot of power to get that instant heat, so they need their own dedicated circuit. We always suggest hard-wiring them into a junction box rated for moisture. And here is the thing about maintenance: seals eventually wear out. Every few years, take a look at the gaskets. If a seal fails, the internals will start to corrode, and you’re back to square one. Also, keep your bathroom well-ventilated. It helps the outer casing last a lot longer.
