
Keeping Wet Zones Warm Without the Headache
Changing rooms and shower areas are a nightmare to heat. You’ve got steam everywhere, water spraying, and people who just want to feel warm the second they step out of the shower. That’s why we go with IP65-rated shortwave infrared heaters. Most heaters try to warm up the air, which is a losing battle in a damp room. These are different. They send heat straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. It’s that immediate, cozy feeling you get from the sun on a winter day. No waiting around. The beauty of shortwave infrared is that it doesn’t need to “warm up.” You flip the switch, and it’s hot. Right now. This is the only real way to keep a cold, soggy changing area comfortable without spending a fortune running a massive HVAC system all day and night. Now, obviously, water and electricity are a dangerous mix. To keep things safe, we wrap the lamps in a chassis with IP65 seals. In plain English? It’s dust-tight and can handle water jets hitting it from any angle. We use heavy-duty gaskets to make sure moisture never touches the electrical terminals. We also use toughened glass or quartz for the bulbs. They have to be incredibly tough because they jump from 10°C to 600°C in a split second. Most glass would just shatter, but these handle the shock like a pro. A few things to keep in mind for the install. You get a ton of heat in a tiny package, but you have to be smart about where you put them. Infrared travels in a straight line. If a locker or a wall is in the way, it creates a “shadow.” Anyone standing in that shadow is going to be shivering. You’ve got to map out the room carefully to make sure everyone is covered. One last tip: these arrays pull a lot of power. Make sure your circuit breakers can handle that initial surge. You don’t want the power tripping just as the morning rush hits and everyone is trying to get warm.
