
Why we test every single IR sensor (and why it matters for your floor)
Let’s be honest: in wafer fab, a tiny electrical leak is a nightmare. One slip-up and you’ve just ruined a whole batch of silicon or tripped a tool that costs more than a house. That’s why we don’t do “batch sampling” here. We don’t just test a few and hope for the best. Every single IR sensor lamp that leaves our shop goes through 100% dielectric and insulation testing. Period. Pushing the limits Here is how we handle the dielectric side of things. We hit the lamps with a voltage way higher than what you’ll ever use in normal operation. Why? Because we want the flaws to show up here, in our factory, not on your floor. It’s the only way to find those microscopic cracks in the quartz or a seal that isn’t quite right. If a lamp arcs or fails under that pressure, it goes straight into the scrap bin. Simple as that. Keeping the current where it belongs Then there’s insulation resistance. We need to make sure the electricity stays in the filament and doesn’t decide to take a detour to the outer housing. If we see the resistance dropping, it usually means moisture got in or the materials are starting to degrade. We keep our standards tight because nobody wants to deal with a chassis grounding issue in the middle of a shift. The reality of the shop floor If you’ve ever dealt with “nuisance trips,” you know how frustrating they are. When you’re packing these sensors into a high-density heating array, all those tiny leaks can add up. Eventually, they trigger the safety relays or GFCIs, and your whole system just shuts down mid-cycle. It’s a headache you don’t need. By guaranteeing the insulation is rock solid, we make sure your uptime stays where it should be. One quick tip, though. Even with our testing, the human element still matters. Keep your connectors clean. A few fingerprints or a smudge of oil on the contact points can create hotspots that eat away at the insulation over time. It doesn’t matter how well we tested the lamp at the factory if the connection is dirty. Keep it clean, and your gear will stay safe.
